| Huge Hit on Opera House Open Day |
|
A HUGE well done to the students who lifted the roof at the Sydney Opera House on Open Day 2010 This is what the Sydney Eisteddfod News letter had to say: "A group of talented contemporary singers from Deborah Wells' studio entertained in the Drama Theatre to thunderous applause. This venue proved ideal, but as moving the crowd in and out was time-consuming, the length of their riveting performance was sadly cut short. The day was a learning experience for all and whatever their paths, they will be able to tell their children and grand-children that they performed by invitation at the Sydney Opera House."
Firstly, I was very flattered to be invited to supply performers for this extremely extremely prestigious event. Only 6 Sydney teachers were approached and I was very pleased to be able to give a select group of my students the opportunity to perform in 'The House' - a first for almost all those chosen. Secondly I was extraordinarily proud of all the students I selected. Not only did they perform like seasoned professionals but they dealt with the delays and disorganisation better than many professionals would have. The full houses in the Drama Theatre cheered and screamed and on more than one occasion performers brought the house to its feet for amazing standing ovations. So congratulations to Aimee, Angus, Holly, Maddy, Marita, Melinda, Rachel, Timothy and Sarah. Amazing singing careers await you all.
Let's hope we get this opportunity again in 2011. |
